Skills

There are plans to have more than 10 types of skills.

You have a [currently unknown] number of skill and attribute points. These can be used in different ways. Specialization1) will be important since it will take a considerable time commitment to learn every skill in the game2) 3).

HJ: Progression isn’t infinite - however, players can actually learn every skill in the game once they reach the level cap. It’ll take a really dedicated player to reach that point, but it’s possible!

To Theion - Last Tuesday at 1:54 AM players can actually learn every skill in the game once they reach the level cap. It’ll take a really dedicated player to reach that point, but it’s possible!

The game will attempt to strike a healthy balance between horizontal and vertical progression as a way of diversifying player's skills over time rather than increasing a players power exponentially as they level.4)

We're aiming for a good mix of both; it feels bad if a max-level player has to go completely toe-to-toe with a brand new player, but we want to emphasize horizontal progression since you're going to end up basically creating your own class as you go along.

There are no plans for respecs at this time5)

Examples of planned skill trees6):

  • Building
  • Toolmaking
  • Exploration
  • Offensive magic

As for skills, players will invest skill points into their choice of skill trees as they level up. These skill trees will cover various important survival skills such as building, toolmaking, exploration, offensive magic, and more. Players can choose to either specialize by investing heavily into individual skill trees to unlock the highest-tier skills, or they can become a jack of all trades (and master of none!) if they prefer to play solo.

Pet Skills

“Pets and mounts will have some innate abilities, you won't just see a dragon and a chicken having a fistfight (hopefully)”7)
